Shibu onsen is a ‘suburb’ within the mega onsen town, Yudanaka. Yudanaka is famed for its bath loving snow monkeys and natural hot springs. The peak season is winter. As I am a value seeking tourist, I went in the off peak season of course 😛
I am a HUGE fan of Nissin noodles. I buy them in cases and occasionally dream about them. Anyways, this trip was more of a ‘pilgrimage’ to Nissin.
Just a little bit of history here. Mr Momofuku Ando 安藤 百福 1910-2007, invented THE chicken instant noodle (Chikin ramen チキンラーメン) in 1958. This revolutionised the world – quick meal to treat hungry salary men of Japan, inspiration to space travel meal, the benchmark for noodle preservation technology. The ultimate solution to long nights of gaming, of course.
The museum housed the replica of the original kitchen where Mr Ando created the first instant noodle.
Hakodate’s morning market 函館朝市. On the breakfast menu: fresh hanasaki crab 花咲かに (summer only), hairy crab and long leg monster crab.
The guy who helped me opening the hanasaki crab has mad skills. He cut the spikey shell into easily edible bites within 2min. **Don’t try this at home without a heavy duty glove. Those spikes can really hurt.
