This hike was originally a real trade route between 2 towns, hence the name Fengchihu (town A) Rueili (town B) historical trail. But ever since Alishan area developed a rail line, it has become a leisure 6.4km hike.
Okay, my hike was a lot more creepy than expected… suddenly misted up and a bunch of birds flew off type. Basically, I was experiencing a ‘A Chinese Ghost Story’ 倩女幽魂 moment. Could not see beyond 1m. My phone camera was having more clarity than me. Needless to say, had to cut the hike short (around the 3km mark?). I chickened out after I started to imagine the bamboos were moving.
HUGE tea bath & roof top swimming pool alert! Surprise find, Day Plus Teascape 茶样子 boutique hotel in Chiayi – I spent 30% of my time in their tea bath (in the room); as oppose to my 90% commitment to sleeping like a pig. Luxury experience at a fraction of the normal cost!
Prepare to queue up at this legendary restaurant – Din Tai Fung 鼎泰豐 , Xinyi store. Warm Taiwanese hospitality and DELICIOUS xiaolongbao :9 No need to break the piggy bank for this place. They are tasty and super reasonable with their prices (NT$200 for 10 xiaolong bao!!!). There are multiple branches even in Taipei, make sure you’re going to the right one. It is Xinyi that you need to get to.
