Takachiho was an ancient town on the north of Miyazaki, Japan. Believed to be the holy ground where the Gods descended. So yeah, myths / legends and the bunch was born here. Well known for their breath-taking Takachiho Gorge, Kunimigaoka heavenly cloud hike and 1200+ years old shrine. The prefecture pamphlets tended to only show the Gorge, but their shrines could easily rival Izumo shrine – less crowds and older trees. This beautiful day trip kicked off from the scenic train ride. Check this view from the train… (20min ride from Hakodate) Onuma Quasi national Park, Nanae – 大沼公園, 七飯町 I loved this park. It was HUGE and plenty of paths to get lost in the woods. The lake was the central feature, even a wanderer like me couldn’t get completely lost. I had been eyeing Japanese knives since my first visit. So glad that I finally took the plunge and can finally call some of their ‘artwork’ my own. This little store was a TOTAL gem.… Ryukyu was the old version word for Okinawa. This theme park recreated the times of Ryuku kingdom, a cultural type of theme park.
