The feature photo says a lot, right? If you miss the old 80’s HK style like me, this place is it! Star Cafe 星座冰室, Hong Kong . What a fierce ambiance! This place turns back the clock!
For less than HKD40, you have yourself a classic HK sandwich and a drink AND a mega dose of old school HK style. Lovely treats don’t have to break the bank 😉
I love this place intensely because it is an original piece of Hong Kong. No BS copying other countries and no silly gimmick. Pure Hong Kong and in its true spirit. No frill, quick service and quality food.Just think about this: recently, Hong Kong has added a Tsukiji 築地市場 of their own. Yes, they copied the one in Tokyo and made a miniature. What is the flipping point of this? Why is that even a tourist spot? If I want Tsukiji, I go to Tokyo. Why place it in Hong Kong and feature it on prime location to tourist? Voluntary culture erosion? Who actually visit HK for Tsukiji? Let’s not even talk about the “avenue of stars” 星光大道 in Hong Kong, shall we? In my opinion, it is a plain insult to the HK’s culture. Copying is never classy; it doesn’t add any character.
Anyways, I highly recommend this place 😀 It is Star Cafe.

Ja and it had such a fab retro feeling to the place 😀
Wow this looks amazing!! Love retro HK
Thank you ???? I love retro HK too
Yeah it’s kind of sad when a place has to replicate another place to create an attraction. It seems to be a common practice though… because it brings in money?
Hmm I love these unpretentious places in HK. So cheap and actual home cooking!
Exactly! Sad indeed. I am undecided whether to write about HK Tsukiji. Or maybe I do a comparison with the real one. Sigh. I sound like such a party pooper ????
AMAZING XO
