Botanical garden of Guadeloupe. Exotic plants in abundance, hungry birds, enormous koi fishes and a restaurant on the rocks. What else can anyone expect from a botanical garden?

Excitement started right from the entrance… with gigantic, hungry koi fishes LOLJardin Botanique de Deshaies Guadeloupe-1801.JPGNo kidding, this was the main entrance. Beautiful, don’t you think? It was a classic tourist trap LOL

This was not my hand.

Anyways, after feeding fat and furious Koi, it was time to take a tranquil stroll. Please take note of how beautiful the weather was..Jardin Botanique de Deshaies Guadeloupe-1954.JPGThe park was excellently maintained. All plants were labelled (in French and Latin/academic lingo) with a typical board sort of sign. Plus, hold your breath, they have an APP!!!! Firstly, I like to emphasis how bad the signal was. If you did not download the APP before arrival, this will not work out. The WIFI was so slow that nothing was ever going to happen. I hope that I had a once off experience.

According to Google Play store, APP has a 2.8 star rating.

This was a botanical garden so flora and fauna was their thing. Here are some photos:

Beside a whole bunch of plants, the garden had some special residence 😀Jardin Botanique de Deshaies Guadeloupe-4178Jardin Botanique de Deshaies Guadeloupe-4364They were not scared of no one. For EUR0.50, you can get yourself a cup of nectar. These hungry birds will flock right over 😉

After feeding the fishes and the birds, it was time to feed me. The restaurant was on a man-made waterfall.Jardin Botanique de Deshaies Guadeloupe-2039While the location was fabulous, the food and service was not. We had to wait for 20min to get attention 🙁 The restaurant was packed though. The “it” dish was apparently the Langoustine. I must say, it looks super scrumptious. My mother in law pointed it out that they get cooked alive and one could hear their scream, so I decided against ordering that.

Time to wander off some more…

The weather has changed drastically. It was tropical, heavy rain + wind. Sitting in the restaurant did not help. So if you really want to see what the garden was like in heavy rain, please watch my clip.

I loved this spray last time, but with rain like that, I did not need any cooling system.

With rain like that, we had to call it a day. The end.

Tips

  • Restaurant reservation is always a good idea.
  • If you’re keen to read up everything, download the app before your visit.
  • I highly recommend spending 2-3 hours in this tropical heaven. There’s lot of ground to cover *include lunch*
  • Bring some EUR0.50 change if you want to feed some birds or fishes.
  • The price of a single visit is the same as an annual pass for local residence.
  • When it comes to feeding the birds, for MAXIMUM birds on your head, shoulders, arms and hands, get yourself 2 cups (one on each hand).

  1. Beautiful images and story and information Joyce. Those parrots are identical to my local Rainbow Lorikeets, co-incidence of Aussie Exports?

  2. Gorgeous photos! What a fab shot of the 2 birds on your hand!
I’m constantly surprised how big and STRONG koi fish can be. They’re not messing around when it comes to food!
Too bad about the restaurant wait time – I always think they have no incentive to improve in tourist areas like these. It’s not like they care to have repeat customers…
Your outfit is so French looking haha – the t-shirt and skirt. 😉

    • Thanks, Stashy 😀 xox

Ja, I swear those koi were aggressive enough to come out of the water. Like if you hold their food slightly above the water, they literately lift themselves up to reach the food.

I have an unromantic truth to share about my outfit 😛 Top = 5 years old, Skirt = 10 years old *LOL* It’s more vintagely French wahahahah
