Asian ‘Venice’ in Shanghai 朱家角

Went to this water town with my ex-boss and husband as my farewell 🙂 I am a lucky girl, my boss and colleagues were all sweethearts. This is only a 90min drive from downtown Shanghai. Great for a get away from the urban jungle. Note, this is not an escape from the crowds. This is still China with its 1.4 billion people.

千寿文 1000 different calligraphy text for the word ‘life’. There are only 2 words in Chinese that has the 1000 different text in tact; thanks to emperor Qin having burnt everyone else’s literature to the grounds to unify China and stop the wars amongst the states. This is listed as an intangible Chinese cultural heritage. We got lucky, the Chinese professor just happened to be there on that day. This work of art was auctioned (I think he said USD800,000 to a HK buyer)

They have quite a few ‘farm’ style local restaurants over there. The below are the dishes that we tried out.

Drunken chicken (cold), House aubergine with mince, Stir fried noodles, House omelette (spring onions & onion), Classic ma po tofu. My favourite dish is the large photo – tofu.

How to get here?

Zhujiajiao, Shanghai 朱家角

Bus / by car

I ordered a car (with driver) via ctrip.com. I guess uber can also do it? It is a 60-90min drive from central Shanghai. We had a 6 seater car for 8 hours and it was around USD80
