Ouigo, the new budget train in France

I’ve recently taken a killer cheap deal traveling with Ouigo train. It was only EUR15 one way from Paris to Nantes!!!! I have noticed a few things from my ride. Here’s what I’ve learnt.

1. No USB / power plugs

Unlike Ouibus (sibling service), Ouigo DO NOT have any USB or power plug slots under / size of the seat. Spare hand held charger is highly recommended. 3500mAh gives about 1 charge. Do the maths yourself 😉

2. No onboard WIFI

There’s no wifi on the train. If the mobile game requires network… well, just don’t, download some offline games before boarding or bring a book.

3. Standard luggage allowed is a carry on and a small hand bag

Actually I won’t recommend people buying extra luggage space. There isn’t much space going around in each train cabin. Please note that there are Ouigo staff checking your tickets before your enter the train, so sneaking large luggage without paying is probably not feasible. Carry-on size luggage can fit under seat (completely disappear) and will not bother you for the duration of the train.

4. Spacious & lots of leg room

The foldable table is LARGE, can fit a 13” laptop and a cup of coffee together easily. Tall people 175cm+ will be happy to know that there’s plenty of leg room. More leg room than Ouibus

5. The heater vent is adjacent to the windows

Pick your seat wisely 😛

6. No food cart!!!

No food on sale in the train, bring your own food & drinks

7. French on-board only

The notice board and announcements are only in French. Make sure you’re aware of your own stop. If you can’t read/listen at all, just get off the train per schedule.
