I am a HUGE fan of Nissin noodles. I buy them in cases and occasionally dream about them. Anyways, this trip was more of a ‘pilgrimage’ to Nissin.
Just a little bit of history here. Mr Momofuku Ando 安藤 百福 1910-2007, invented THE chicken instant noodle (Chikin ramen チキンラーメン) in 1958. This revolutionised the world – quick meal to treat hungry salary men of Japan, inspiration to space travel meal, the benchmark for noodle preservation technology. The ultimate solution to long nights of gaming, of course.
The museum housed the replica of the original kitchen where Mr Ando created the first instant noodle.
The instant noodle in a pack quickly turned into cup noodle, bowl noodle, stir fried flavoured noodle etc.
My favourite instant noodle of ALL time – the original, irreplaceable sesame oil flavour :9
My favourite part of the museum was the DIY cup noodle. Basically, buy a blank cup, design the cup, choose the noodle and flavour. WARNING, that queue is BIG. Get that ticket asap you arrive at the museum.
Introducing… my personal handmade cup noodle – flavour: chicken soup, egg, spring onion
For the best experience, bring a small child? Like no older than junior high? They have special classes only for kids (+ parent is allowed). Think cook noodles in the Nissin specialised kitchen~~ with Nissin apron and chef hat. No adults were allowed without a child. 🙁
I cannot emphasis enough. Get that DIY noodle ticket ASAP you arrive.
At the top of the building, there’s noodle bazaar… Noodles all over the world was available here. Vietnamese, Italian, Chinese, Indonesian, French… etc JPY300 each and JPY300 for any dessert. Food coma.
