LOVE cooking class!!! It’s a fabulous way of spending 3 hours cooking / stuffing face. Who’s excited about MSG-free dim sum?
The teacher was William. He gave us a short intro (5min) on the history of dim sum and how it became a trend setting cuisine in London . Another word for dim sum is ‘yum chai’. ‘Yum chai’ literately translates to ‘drink tea’. This is a Cantonese / Southern China thing. O, the class offers complimentary bottomless Chinese tea. *it does have caffeine
Washing hands was high on the agenda. Hands must be clean, clean, clean. The class featured making everything from scratch – making the pastry from flour and water, plus filling mix from scratch. It was MSG free, wholesome home made style dim sum class 😀 William’s kids love them, so that was why he learnt how to make them. The mix was pork and/or prawns.
Don’t want to have spoiler, so I won’t write too much details here. The agenda was as follows:
- Har Gow 蝦餃 (Prawn Dumplings)
- Chiu Chow Fun Gwor 潮州粉果 (Chiu Chow steamed dumplings)
- Sui Mai 燒賣 (Open top Steamed Pork Dumplings)
Waffled down 20 dim sum later… I felt so inspired after this class (burrrrrp). Will do it again in a heartbeat 😉
