The time is now 23h00 (UK), 31/12/2015. This marks the final post for 2015. This is so not a soul searching / new year resolution post. Wrapping up with my favourite 10 food porn of 2015. Food sexiness.
I am rather fond of skiing. You know, the graceful movement of ski and lovely landscape. The only bad part is that I am TERRIBLE at it. I fall very gracefully, regularly and move quickly out of the way. Is that good sportsmanship or what? In any case, in the lovely French Alps with my spirit ran high, I decided to ski in the blue lane. Fantastic idea! Cruising along and enjoy the speed… BOOM, SPLAT… crashed into the service station.
Merry Christmas! This is my first Christmas post. For this special day, I’d like to write about the Japanese tea ceremony concept, Ichigo Ichie. 一期一会 ‘One opportunity, one encounter’ This seemingly simple sentence strikes a cord with me. I only learn about this yojijukugo (4 word idiom, 四字熟語) in 2007 when I met an old lady near Kiyomizu temple in Kyoto. We had tea together. She gave me a small ceramic frog and said, ‘Ichigo ichie’. Something that I have never forgotten. 一期一会 The concept is simple: each encounter is a once in a life time experience, it can NEVER repeat again.
Bateaux Parisiens was a restaurant / cruise that operates on the Seine. With the iconic Paris as its back drop, the beautifully arrange French cuisine was just orgasmic. We did the lunch cruise 12:45 service premier (front of the boat, next to the window). 2 hours of pure Parisian romance. With generous helping of champagne, wine, cake, starter, main, cheese, dessert, and more wine. I had major food coma. We were really lucky that there was hardly any body on the cruise on that day. I think there was only 6 tables? So we had plenty of good service and attention from the waitrons.
Welcome to South Africa, my humble home, country of smiling people, song singing, African sun… and a bunch of wild animals 😀 Driving along on garden route and get to Kleinbaai (in English, ‘Small bay’, but no SA person will understand you if you say small bay lol). The drive is my favourite. It is super scenic and easy drive. Watch out for the speed limits!! There are lots of cameras on the way.
Surprise find, Day Plus Teascape 茶样子 boutique hotel in Chiayi – I spent 30% of my time in their tea bath (in the room); as oppose to my 90% commitment to sleeping like a pig.
Mutianyu 慕田峪 萬里長城 in December was just great. Quiet and not that many people – less than 100? This was my 4th time up on the Great Wall and by far the quietest I’ve seen.
